In 2011, a woman contacted the Rose Brooks Center, a domestic violence shelter, after she was beaten nearly to death with a hammer by her boyfriend.
The shelter found a space for her immediately, but there was one problem. The woman wasn’t going anywhere without her 110-pound Great Dane.
The 110-pound canine was the reason the woman was still alive. While the woman was being attacked, the dog got on top of her and took the majority of the blows. The dog had several broken bones, including a hip and two ribs.
It’s no surprise the woman wouldn’t leave her furry-friend behind. And now, The Rose Brooks Center will be the first shelter in their region to accept four-legged friends.
