If you’re like most of us, you’ve fantasized once or twice about winning the lottery. What if you promised to split your winnings with someone else? Would you honor that pact after hitting the jackpot?
Marion Forrest of Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs did just that after hitting her numbers on the Fantasy 5 lottery. It all started when the 86-year-old grandmother stopped by her local Duke’s Mini Mart to buy her weekly ticket and play her ‘lucky numbers.’
Unfortunately, the numbers weren’t quite lucky yet. Then one day the Duke’s cashier, Walter, suggested that Marion try buyin gher ticket a litte earlier than usual. Maybe a change in her routine but not the numbers would be just the change her luck needed.
Marion laughed and took his advice while buying the ticket and then promised she’d split the winnings if the trick paid off.
To everyone’s surprise, it worked! Marion’s lucky day had arrived! She didn’t win the big jackpot, but she did win $300. She hadn’t forgotten her promise and made her way down to Dukes with joy in her heart.
Marion and her granddaughter Heide walked into Duke’s with an envelope and a pair of balloons bearing Walter’s name. They gave Walter his surprise, along with the warmest of hugs.
