There some bad news for those beach-goers who have the “mouth of a sailor,” swearing at the beach can cost you a $500 fine and up to 30 days in jail.
According to Myrtle Beach Online, the city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina issued nearly 300 profane language citations in 2017. The citations earned the city more than $22,000 in fines.
“The goal is to have folks obey whatever rules, ordinance that any government puts in place,” said city spokesman Mark Kruea. According to local police, the law is rarely enforced except for those times when the person swearing is attempting to “provoke a violent reaction from another person.”
