Marissa English, 25, was born with a variety of health conditions which have had a dramatic impact on her life. Marissa suffers from cerebral palsy and scoliosis as well as inoperable cyst on her brain.
She’s also a huge Keith Urban fan who has always dreamed of seeing him live in concert. Sadly, her health rapidly declined before she ever had an opportunity to pursue that dream.
Her nurse, Jan Cassidy, reached out to Keith Urban’s team, hoping he would be able to visit her at Mercy Children’s Hospital in Ohio. She and fellow nurse Laura Szyperski Biel also posted this request to Facebook hoping it would reach Keith’s team
Luckily their effort paid off. Keith Urban saw the messages and immediately cleared his schedule to visit Marissa in the hospital. When he walked into her room, Marissa was thrilled to see him and held his hand while they talked and sang together.
Keith serenaded her with her favorite song, “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” which moved everyone in the room to tears.
Marissa’s mother said the visit was exactly what her daughter needed. Keith was so touched by Marissa’s love for him that he called her “my biggest fan.” After his visit, Keith dedicated his next concert to Marissa and thanked the nurses who helped arrange the meeting.
Sadly, Marissa passed away not long after Keith’s visit. However, her dream came true, and the experience gave her the strength to keep fighting until the end. Her mother shared that Marissa had lived her life to the fullest and had touched many people’s hearts.
