Back in October 2014, Andrew and Neely Moldovan hired Andrea Polito to photograph their wedding in Dallas Texas. Andrea was a qualified, professional photographer who had run a lucrative and well-regarded business for 13 years at the time of the wedding.
Three months after taking their vows, Andrew and Neely made an appearance on local television complaining about Andrea and the pictures she had taken of their big day.
The couple claimed that in addition to the thousands of dollars they had already paid the photographer, she was withholding their images and demanding an additional $125. Neely and Andrew openly expressed their sadness and claimed that Andrea was “holding their wedding images hostage.”
They took their crusade against Andrea to social media where they painted themselves as victims of a “scam artist.” This campaign rapidly riled up a mob of followers who fervently supported the Moldovan’s. Andrea’s reputation and mental health were destroyed. Her business suffered and she quickly drained her savings trying to support her family.
The only problem was none of the Moldovan’s grievances were true.
After gathering proof that the Moldovans’ allegations against her (including withholding the images and imposing unforeseen fees) were false, Andrea took the lying newlyweds to court.
In the end, the jury rendered a decision that startled both Andrew and Neely – a $1 million payout directly to Andrea.
