At a recent school board meeting of the Katy Independent School District in Texas, board members opened the floor to the public to discuss the bullying epidemic that has plagued schools for decades.
It seemed like any other meeting until a man named Greg Barrett approached the podium.
Greg discussed his own childhood experiences with bullies. “I started out and I had teachers that bullied me, I had kids that bullied me, even the coaches,” he said to the board. “I had nobody to turn to.”
He recounted a particularly painful story where a bully forced his head into a toilet before a group of children beat him while he lay in the fetal position. This was just one of many humiliatingly painful encounters Greg suffered throughout his time in school.
Greg admitted he even considered suicide in his childhood because he saw no other escape. “At this point, I had nobody,” he said.
Then came the twist that left the room speechless. Not only was his abusive bully in the room with him today, but he was seated in the school district’s superintendent chair leading the very meeting about bullying.
