Greg Zanis has built over 14,000 crosses in the past 20 years. Every cross was built for families and victims of tragedies in the United States.
Greg is a carpenter by trade and created Crosses For Losses, a non-profit organization that creates crosses for anyone who asks.
Greg heard about the tragedy in Las Vegas and began to build.
After building 58 crosses, Greg got in his truck and drove to Las Vegas. He placed the crosses behind the infamous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign. He told reporters, “I’m just doing what I can. I’m a carpenter doing something about it.”
It would normally take him weeks to do this much work but he was on his way the next day. The point of the crosses is for friends and families to gather and begin the healing process, realizing they’re not alone in tragedy.
But Greg’s daughter told reporters her father isn’t financially well-off. He’d made crosses before paying rent.
Eventually, the media caught wind of what Greg had been doing. The FOX5 Surprise Squad heard Greg’s story and wanted to help. With the help of the Surprise Squad, Greg will be able to continue his work when needed.
