Jessica Baker couldn’t believe her eyes when she opened her mail and found a bill from her cousin’s wedding. When her babysitter’s children contracted hand-foot-and-mouth disease, Jessica was forced to cancel on the adults-only wedding at the last minute.
Barely a month later Jessica and her husband received a bill for $75.90 for two uneaten meals. The letter read, “This cost reflects the amount paid by the bride and groom for meals that were RSVP’d for, reimbursement and explanation for no show, card, call or text would be appreciated.” Jessica couldn’t believe it. She herself had been married only 12 years ago, and while there were a few no-shows the thought of sending out bills never crossed her mind.
After sharing the bill on Facebook, Jessica was showered with support from dozens of viewers who thought the newly-weds’ request was terribly tacky. She remembered her favorite comment saying, “One of the best Facebook answers that I got was from a gentleman who suggested that we write a check in that amount to a charity and then send the bride and groom the receipt.”
