A man from Ada, Oklahoma was forced to shoot and kill a neighbor who was attempting to drown his 3-month-old twins last Friday.
Leland Foster, 27, had been threatening Michelle Forrells, his estranged wife and mother of the children, with a knife when a 12-year-old girl inside the home ran for help. The girl found Cash Freeman next door. Freeman ran to Forrells’ home and found Foster forcing the two babies underwater in a bathtub. Without hesitation, Freeman shot Foster twice in the back.
Foster died at the scene and now Freeman fears he will be punished for shooting the other man in the back. Neighbor Summer Pierce was quick to come to Foster’s defense. “I think he did the right thing,” she told local NBC affiliate KFOR 4. “Who knows what would have happened to the babies if he hadn’t intervened. They might not have made it.”
According to KFOR, Freeman said he did what had to be done to save the children. A spokesperson with the Ada Police Department told KFOR that Freeman was questioned and released but will have another appointment with the district attorney who will determine if the shooting was justified.
The twins were flown to a hospital in Oklahoma City for emergency medical care. Both twins recovered from the ordeal and have been released from the hospital.
In 2011 Foster plead no contest to charges of domestic abuse by strangulation and arson in the first degree.
