A home in Koreatown, Los Angeles has become more than a simple eye-sore thanks to an out-of-control hoarding situation that has been building for over a decade. Neighbors have become increasingly frustrated in recent years as a rodents, bugs, and other pests have found a safe haven in the hoarder’s house.
“We used to not have any problems with bugs in the past,” neighbor Edward Lim told Inside Edition. “But in the last two years, we’ve seen more and more bugs in the house. We’ve been hearing even rats scurrying about.”
The tallest pile of garbage on the property stands about 8 feet tall and is infested with cockroaches. The front door to the home is partially blocked by debris, forcing you to climb in and out of the 90-year-old woman’s home. As officials work to clean up the hoarder’s home, they discover that the woman’s son is to blame for the out-of-control mess.
According to a family friend of the homeowner, there have been long-standing concerns about the mess and her safety. They also claim she has fallen several times because the mess makes it difficult for her to move. When firefighters, medics, and representatives from city councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas’ office arrived at the house, she was discovered to be safe and healthy, and she happily signed an agreement for the city to clean the property.
“I’m finally glad something is being done about it,” Edward Lim remarked.
Residents of the neighborhood don’t know how long the clean up will take, but are excited to see progress after 10 years of complaints.
