The Patriot Guard quickly gathered to carry out an honor mission after learning that a fallen Marine’s remains were going to be shipped home via Fed Ex.
According to the Patriot Guard, Staff Sargent Jonathan Turner served in the Marine Corps for 17 years until his medical retirement in 2014. In a forum post inviting members to SSgt Turner’s funeral, the Guard writes, “[His family] describe him as a great leader who inspired his Marine brothers both in the Corps and in daily life. You were his friend if you knew him for 5 minutes or 5 years. He would give you the shirt off his back. Jonathan, or ‘Turner’ as he was known to his friends, loved riding his motorcycle so having the PGR there for his service is very meaningful.”
Turner’s cremated remains were to be shipped in a Fed Ex box to his mother who was unable to make the long journey from Georgia to California for his funeral. The Patriot Guard felt that this would be a terribly disrespectful final journey for a Military Veteran.
They made a call for anyone and everyone, veteran or not, to attend this honor mission. Together they formed a mighty caravan to bring Staff Sgt. Turner home with the dignity and honor he deserved.
