Emily the elephant was an orphan rescued by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. As a baby, Emily fell into an old pit latrine near a prison camp in Manyani. She was malnourished and spent her next few years recovering at the Trust’s Nairobi Park Elephant Nursery.
Now she’s all grown up and about to give birth to her second wild-born calf.
After she was fully grown, Emily was released back into the wild, but she came home to the wildlife trust to give birth.
The caretakers were completely blown away by the heartwarming experience.
None of the caretakers had sought her out or made any attempt to bring her back for the big day. No one could believe what was happening.
The caretakers posted the following video to their website and wrote, “the event was filled with trumpets and rumbles of joy from EMILY’s satellite herd of ex orphans who had accompanied her back, all of whom were eager to gently help get the new precious bundle to its feet, nudging it gently, and using their trunks to lift the baby.”
Now Emily has two daughters, Eve and the newborn Emma.
Watch the breathtaking miracle of life appear before your eyes in the video below. Isn’t this incredible?
