Yvonne Lin, a mother from New York with a 2-hour long subway commute, was pregnant with her second child before anyone ever offered her a seat. During her first pregnancy, Lin carried a special thank you card for the first person who offered her a seat on public transportation. Unfortunately, she never had an opportunity to use the card.
Things weren’t any different with her second pregnancy. After 6 months Lin decided to make something really special for anyone willing to perform what has sadly become a rare act of chivalry. She was 8 months pregnant before she finally gave the reward to Ricky Barksdale, an Army veteran, actor, and stunt man.
Barksdale wrote about his experience on Instagram,
I’m sitting on the train and there was a lady standing in front of me and I didn’t realize she was pregnant, she’s wearing all black so it was hard to tell, I got up immediately to give her my seat and she said wait I have something to give you and she handed me this trophy lol. she’s been trying to give this trophy away for two months to see if any man would offer her a seat and had no luck till she came across me.
Lin is an artist, baker, photographer, children’s toy designer at wondernik. She used her skills to make a custom trophy featuring the Incredible Hulk and a plaque that read “#1 DECENT DUDE, First Man to Offer Subway Seat to Pregnant Woman throughout Two Pregnancies.” She was thrilled that someone finally stepped up and acted like a real man.
