Ben Franklin’s motto of “A penny saved is a penny earned” helped lay the foundation for this popular store franchise which began in 1927, and grew to having over 2,500 locations throughout the country.
Sam Walton, who would go on to be known for Walmart, began his career managing a Ben Franklin store. Additionally, Michael J Dupey converted a Ben Franklin store into an arts and crafts store that would eventually become known as Michaels.
