The body of Louis Wolfensohn was discovered in his mothers home nearly 20 years after she first reported his disappearance. According to the Post, Rita Wolfensohn is legally blind and authorities believe she legitimately did not know her son’s body had been there for nearly two decades. The gruesome discovery was made by Rita’s sister-in-law who found Louis’ skeletal remains clad in jeans and a t-shirt laying on a mattress. The room was filled with garbage and looked as if “a garbage truck had dumped its load” one police officer told The New York Post.
Rita is a hoarder whose home is filled with garbage and stinks of rotting food, which could have covered the scent of human decay after her son’s death. Rita has lived alone for decades now after her husband Jesse died in 1987 and she remained estranged from the rest of her family. Her sister-in-law had arrived at Rita’s home to help her pack a bag for a trip to the hospital when she found the body. Her brother Joseph reported that this is the first time he has seen his sister in years.
Authorities believe Louis died of natural causes and do not suspect any foul play at this time. Although the body has not yet been formally identified, officers are confident that it is her son. Rita had a second son, Michael, who died in 2003 at 38-years-old. Louis was around 29-years-old at the time of his death.
