Meet 47-year-old Roy Larner, aka the “Lion of London Bridge.” Named in reference to both his incredible bravery and in reference to his Millwall football club, “The Lion” was stabbed 8 times while fighting three armed terrorists during the terror attacks in London this week.
If his actions alone weren’t heroic enough, Larner was heard screaming “F*** you, I’m Millwall!” in response to the jihadis chanting “Islam, Islam! This is for Allah!”
Larner was enjoying a pint in the Black & Blue restaurant when the machete-weilding terrorists burst through the doors. As the bar patrons ran, Larner faced the attackers alone. “They had these long knives and started shouting about Allah. Then it was, ‘Islam, Islam, Islam,” he told The Sun from his hospital bed. “Like an idiot, I shouted back at them. I thought, ‘I need to take the piss out of these bastards.’ I took a few steps towards them and said, ‘F*** you, I’m Millwall.’ So they started attacking me.”
Outnumbered and unarmed, Larner refused to give the terrorists what they wanted most, his fear. “I stood in front of them, trying to fight them off. Everyone else ran to the back. I was on my own against all three of them, that’s why I got hurt so much,” he said. “It was just me, trying to grab them with my bare hands and hold on. I was swinging. I got stabbed and sliced eight times. They got me in my head, chest and both hands. There was blood everywhere.”
Earlier today Larner was released from intensive care and is expected to make a full recovery. His friends stopped by and gave him the book Learn to Run as a joke after he was the only patron to stand and fight.

Larner’s mother Phyllis couldn’t be more proud. “He’s fearless, my son,” she told The Sun. “He’ll give as good as he gets. He’s quite nippy and lippy and wouldn’t back down from a fight. He wouldn’t care who it was or if they had a knife or gun.” While Larner was unable to stop the terrorists, he slowed the down long enough to save countless lives as other customers escaped.
The three terrorists were killed just a few minutes later. They entered the bar after having driven a van through a group of pedestrians on London Bridge around 10:00 PM.
There is currently a petition calling for Larner to receive the George Cross, the highest possible honor that can be awarded to a British civilian. Click here to sign the petition.
