Codie Hutton of Suffolk, East Anglia was heartbroken when she faced the possibility of losing her beloved Springer Spaniel, Maisie. They had formed an inseparable bond spanning nine-years that seemed to come to a crashing halt one cold day in November.
Codie and her father were on a road trip when they pulled over to stretch their legs and give Maisie a brief walk. Codie was connecting the leash when suddenly a nearby firework exploded and Maisie ran away in fear. “She just bolted. Straight out of the car,” Codie said in an interview with East Anglian Daily Times.
Codie tried to find her and waited as long as she could, but to no avail. Things got so much worse when someone reported that they had seen Maisie being struck by a car not far from where she disappeared. Codie and her father searched the area, but found no sign of Maisie.
Things got worse when they received a call about the mangled body of a deceased dog bearing a strong resemblance to Maisie. Although there was no microchip found, Codie was convinced it was her beloved dog due to the similar leg markings. They mournfully buried the animal in their backyard, with Codie explaining to her 3-year-old son that Maisie had become a star in doggy heaven.
The family seemed to be trapped on an emotional rollercoaster when they received another call days later about a dog resembling Maisie spotted just a few miles away.
Hesitant yet hopeful, Codie drove to the location and couldn’t believe her eyes when she found Maisie!
