Nurse’s jaw drops when she sees who’s holding her graduation pin





50-year-old Margaret “Penny” Pearson is a proud wife, mother, and as of very recently, nursing school graduate.

It’s traditional for graduates of Rasmusssen College at the Mankato campus in Minnesota to receive a special pin on the day of their graduation. This pin symbolizes their transition from a student to a professional nurse. A loved one usually presents the newly minted nurse with their pin and Penny’s husband had agreed to present hers. Or so she thought.

On the day of her graduation Penny stood quietly before the podium, but her mouth fell open when she saw someone other than her husband holding her pin.

Her husband and friends at college made arrangements for a special surprise that left Penny in tears. Her pin was in the hands of 29-year-old U.S. Army Sergeant Dustin Pearson, her son had just returned after spending more than a year deployed in Kuwait.
